We are thrilled to have been able to support our first school. 172 learners do now have the stationary and essential supplies to study for one year! Pencils, pens, mathematic sets, notebooks...
The school has also received sports material (soccer and netball balls, bibs, jumping ropes...) along with educational posters for the teachers to hang in their classroom.
This wouldn't have been possible without the financial support of the French embassy in Windhoek. The embassy paid for the all material that we delivered on the 13th of July.
On the occasion of the hand-over we organized a reception in the school, where Claire Bodonyi, the French ambassador to Namibia, addressed teachers and pupils, while offering bags and a meal for all present.
We signed an agreement for the donation of material, the follow up of which will be ensured by the team of “Back to School Namibia”.
Klein Aub is a community located in the south of Namibia, 2h30 driving from the capital Windhoek. This rural area is 1,5h of driving from the closest town, Rehoboth, on a gravel road. This make this community vulnerable if the harvests are not good. Food security is becoming a real challenge after the last 3 years of drought and economic recession, exacerbated now by the effects of the Covid pandemic.
Some kids in Klein Aub, like elsewhere in the country only go to school also because it gets them a proper meal.
Our goal is to have as many kids as possible remaining in school so as to brighten up their future.
